N1trillion Saga: Confusion As FG Orders EFCC To Probe Sitting Chairman, Lamorde

EFCC-Acting-Chairman-Mr-Ibrahim-Lamorde-360x270

The Federal Ministry of Justice has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to commence investigation into the allegation that the agency’s chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde, diverted about N1 trillion proceeds of corruption recovered by the anti-graft agency.

The request follows a petition dated September 18, 2015, sent to the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Abdullahi Yola.

The petition was filed by a security expert and Chief Executive Officer of a security firm, Panic Alert Security Systems (PASS), George Uboh.

Uboh sent a reminder letter dated September 28, to Yola, threatening to sue the ministry, if he failed to respond to his petition within seven days.

In the petition, Uboh asked the Justice Ministry, “through which EFCC derives its power to immediately rescind the fiat to prosecute criminal suspects from EFCC”.

He also sought a “fiat for the prosecution of EFCC’s past and present leadership and their known and unknown co-conspirators via the 22-page preliminary criminal charges the undersigned has prepared.”

The ministry’s letter, signed by the Director, Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Muhammad Diri, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, is dated October 8, 2015.

The letter made available to reporters in Abuja yesterday, reads: “I refer to your letter dated September 28, 2015, in respect of the above mentioned subject matter.

“I am directed to inform you that your petition has been sent to the EFCC for their response to the allegation contained therein.

“The commission has been directed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary to forward the result of its investigation as soon as it is completed.

“Accept please, the assurances of the highest regards of the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary.”

It remains to be seen how the EFCC will successfully launch an investigate on its own head.

Lamorde, still presides over commission activities, and routinely receives foreign and local agencies who pay courtesy visits.

Uboh has, however, argued that “pursuant to the Civil Service Rules, Ibrahim Lamorde must step aside during the pendency of the investigation by the commission”.

He had alleged that Lamorde diverted among others, the loot recovered from a former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha and an ex-Inspector-General of Police Tafa Balogun.

15-year old boy arrested in Northern Ireland in connection with cyber attack

UK internet service provider TalkTalk was recently hacked leaving millions of customers at risk. The firm’s websites have been hacked at least three times in the past year, allowing criminals to capture names, email addresses, account numbers and bank details. A boy of 15 has been arrested on suspicion of taking part in the cyber-attack on TalkTalk.

The teenager was taken into custody after police raided his family home in Northern Ireland. A forensic team continued to comb the boy’s house for clues last night after obtaining a search warrant hours earlier.

‘We know this has been a worrying time for customers and we are grateful for the swift response and hard work of the police. We will continue to assist in the ongoing investigation.’ Criminals posing as TalkTalk technicians have been hijacking customers’ computers, stealing cash and even threatening rape. The scammers ask victims to allow remote access to their computer and then offer to pay compensation for the disruption into their bank account. Stage two involves claiming they have overpaid the compensation and asking for the money back, which requires the victims to type in bank details and make an electronic transfer.

In reality, no money is put into the customer’s account. If people refuse to pay up, the hackers are often abusive and lock them out of their computer unless they pay a ransom.

Computer experts are also carefully examining the boy’s PC and other gadgets for links to the data breach. A spokesman for the technology giant said: ‘TalkTalk can confirm that we have been informed by the Metropolitan Police of the arrest of a suspect in connection with the cyber-attack on our website on October 21

Why Wike’s sack may affect Amaechi’s ministerial confirmation

The nullification of the election of Governor Nyesom Wike, is expected to have several ripple effects, one of which is the ministerial confirmation of Rotimi Amaechi.

During his screening at the Senate last week, Amaechi, a former Rivers governor, was not questioned by the Senators of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The PDP Senators had refused to question him until the reports by the Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions, on the petitions submitted against Amaech, was ready.

With the screening and confirmation of the remaining ministerial nominees, scheduled to continue today, Tuesday, October 27, PDP senators, feeling aggrieved over the unfavourable tribunal rulings in Rivers and Akwa Ibom state, are expected to be hostile.

PDP senators are going to try and scuttle the confirmation of Amaechi as minister, for a number of reasons.

The senators of the opposition party are still nursing the grudge of Amaechi’s defection to the APC in 2014, and the recent tribunal rulings have only made the wound deeper.

The lawmakers are also said to be perturbed that if Amaechi is confirmed as minister, he would become too powerful and much more influential than he is at present.

With a rerun election seeming likely in Rivers state, the senators believe that Amaechi’s confirmation would directly have an effect on the polls.

Beyonce & Jay-z had that elevator fight over Rihanna new book cla

According to an explosive new biography of Beyonce, she split with Jay-z for about a year in 2005, the same year he scouted Rihanna. His PR people spread news he was seeing Rihanna but it was all rumours, planned in order to increase Riri's profile ahead of her forthcoming album, Pon-De-Replay.

It didn't go down well with queen Bey and she split from Jay-z whom she had been dating since 2001. The astonishing claim comes in a new unauthorized biography by best-selling writer J Randy Taraborrelli titled Becoming Beyoncé: The Untold Story.

Describing the alleged split, he said: 'Beyoncé didn't know what to make of this, and it actually ended up breaking them up for a time. They spent maybe a year apart from each other because Beyoncé just wasn't sure of what to make of the situation with Rihanna.'

But he adds: 'It's safe to say that Rihanna and Beyonce are friends.'

According to Taraborrelli's theory, the split would have been around 2005, when Pon De Replay was released. At that time Jay Z was 35, Beyoncé 24, and Rihanna 17.

He also addressed the notorious spat of May 2014, when Beyoncé's sister Solange was caught on surveillance camera lashing out at Jay Z in the elevator of New York's Standard Hotel after the Met Gala.

After a surveillance video of the incident made it's way on the internet without audio, many wondered what caused Beyoncé's 29-year-old sister to violently attack the Jay-z. The author spoke to several individuals who are close to Beyoncé, and claimed he has heard from eyewitnesses that the Drunk In Love singer told Jay he could not attend Rihanna's after party at the Met Gala.

The author added: 'I think it's safe to say the only people who know for sure what happened are Bey, Jay, Solange and the bodyguard who were in the elevator.'

The author also alleges that Beyoncé has anyone looking after her three-year-old daughter Blue Ivy must sign a contract titled 'Daily Program for Blue Ivy as Per Mrs. Carter.'

Taraborrelli explained: 'If you are a nanny coming into her household, and you think you are going to just raise Blue Ivy the way you want to, that's not gonna happen.
'Beyoncé has sort of an agreement, a structure of how she wants her child to be raised and you have to adhere to this.'
